Description

The Haunted Steppes have had a very difficult and lamentable history. The Steppes have been overrun by the Scaedugenga (the Shadow Horde, or the Fallen Ones) several times in its past. These creatures periodically belch forth from the Shadowlands, seeking to destroy all sentient life in the Steppes and the lands to the south. Now, it appears that the wards holding back the Shadow Horde are failing. The question is why? The characters learn that the wards are failing because an elder god — a force of pure entropy known as Hastur, the King in Yellow — has been imprisoned in the depths of Lake Hali, far to the north in the Haunted Steppes. Hastur is slowly freeing itself from this prison, and because of this unimaginably powerful being's efforts, reality itself is being warped. Only by fully freeing the elder god — and then defeating it — can the Haunted Steppes, the Lost Lands, and all of reality be saved.
